Rain, Rain and More Rain

It started yesterday. Booming thunder, brilliant lightening and then the rain poured from dark heavy clouds. This morning, the sun teased me with a few moments of light and then the clouds were back, dumping more water on my already soaked lawn. The temperature, a once balmy seventy degrees has dropped to forty-one degrees with the darkness. Where the ef is spring?

One would think that with all outside activities cancelled -- including the last day of B2's softball tournament and B4's baseball game -- that I'd get some writing in. I would have thought so too, but after washing all of the bed sheets and five other loads of laundry, grocery shopping, making breakfast and dinner, and cleaning the basement it's now around eight- thirty and these are the only words I've written in over seven days. I feel like such a failure. But heck, I've always go this week right?

One lesson I've learned is that I'm more productive with the pencil and paper. It's not that I can't "create" at the keyboard, rather pencil and paper is just always there. I don't have to worry about hauling my laptop to all the places I go. Pencil and paper is a much simpler way for me to achieve.

I read the blogs of many literary agents and they pretty much all say the same thing -- query them with something new. Well, here's a taste of what is listed as sales in the latest PLD -- you tell me if these are fresh ideas. I'm certainly not dissing the author. Their writing must have been utterly brilliant.

. . . a young girl fights for survival against crippling poverty, sexual abuse and abandonment . . .

. . . a young woman struggling to break free of a turbulent past and find love . . .

Oh yeah, I haven't heard this before.

Now, this one I just might pick up -- the heartwarming and humorous story of a young LA personal shopper who dies before her time -- run over by a Mini-Cooper -- that's a fresh idea!

This week I need to get back to work on the YA Fantasy despite work, softball practice, baseball practice, piano lessons, ballet and all that "being mom" stuff that comes along.

Wish me luck!

GOOD LUCK!!

You seem to balance the whole "Mom/Writer" thing pretty well, imo!

We had a hail storm here, yesterday. And it's freezing and dark and rainy, currently, and the kids are having Spring pics taken outside at school. Figures.
